Dec 11, 2011 Model 1100 serial numbers (on the receiver) started with the number 1001. All but the early guns also have a prefix letter. All Model 1100 Remington shotguns were serial numbered in blocks of numbers. Each serial number has a suffix and the following indicates the meaning: V = 12ga.
Remington 1100 Serial Number Year Lookup
- A serial number is printed on the receiver of each Remington rifle or shotgun, provided it's a newer model. Serial numbers were not a requirement until 1968, so older firearms may not have serial numbers. You can still use the two-letter code on the barrel of the rifle or shotgun to look up the firearm's age.
- If there is no letter prefix on the serial number, it would indicate that it was made between 1963 and 1968 (approx.). Den REMINGTON SHOTGUN SERIAL NUMBER STRUCTURE M/870 LETTER PREFIX 1950 TO APPROX 1968: NO SERIAL NUMBER PREFIX 1968 TO PRESENT: LETTERS USED (IN SEQUENCE) S-68, T-74, V-78, W-84, X-90, A-91, B-94, C-97, D-01, AB-05.

Occasionally the characters are weak or unevenly applied. A hand stamp is used and can be difficult to read. There are also symbols on the right side of the barrel. The R.E.P. proof mark is usually surrounded by an oval. The magnaflux stamp is most often a symbol inside of a triangle and usually appears to the left of the proof mark, but also may appear to the right or below it. The gallery stamp is to the right of these and may be either one or two symbols or letters. The gallery stamp(s) signify function and accuracy testing. When measuring barrel lengths, go from the gas port on the operating side of the receiver to the muzzle.
